SWGA pays homage to John Ranslem and Maree Stone

Chris Brauner

The Southwestern Golf Association (SWGA) has decided to name the permanent trophy for the Southwestern Amateur Women’s Division the “John Ranslem Trophy” for John’s 16+ years of dedicated service to the SWGA. John was instrumental as a President (2013-17) and an Executive Director (2017-2024) in establishing a home for the Southwestern Amateur at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, leading our successful efforts to bring in sponsorships to allow us to improve player experiences, tirelessly working on player recruitment, urging us to start a Women’s Division, and leading the way for the Women’s Division to be one of five tournaments of the newly formed Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series.

The Southwestern Golf Association also recognized John’s longtime friend and workmate Maree Stone. She joined the SWGA when John became President and since has served as its Administrative Manager, assisting John and handling many of the details related to the players of each Southwestern Amateur.

John and Maree have chosen to leave the SWGA effective July 1, 2024. We wish them all the best.
