Huai-Chien (Cindy) Hsu, who tied for second in the Southwestern Women’s Amateur earlier this summer, rode that momentum all the way to a win in the inaugural Elite Amateur Cup points race.
The Southwestern Women’s Amateur was one of five amateur championships selected as inaugural members of the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series (WEAGS), and players earned points throughout the summer based on their finishes in those events. Hsu, who is from Tainan City, Taiwan and will begin her junior year playing golf at the University of Texas later this month, leapfrogged four players in the final event, the LNGA Amateur Championship, to top the final points standings.
Among other perks of winning the title, Hsu will enter the U.S. Women’s Amateur as the Elite Amateur Cup winner.
Three of the top four points earners played in the Southwestern. Molly Smith (Westford, Mass. / University of Georgia) finished a close second in the standings, while Scarlett Schremmer (Birmingham, Ala. / University of Texas verbal commit) finished fourth. Smith and Schremmer finished T13 and T6 respectively at Desert Mountain and earned exemptions into the U.S. Women’s Amateur by virtue of their finish in the points standings.
The Southwestern Golf Association would like to congratulate Cindy Hsu as we look forward to year two of the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series.
